The Experience of Making Stained Glass Cookies: A Very Merry Evening

I made the stained glass cookie dough earlier in the day with the little boys. They added cups of flour and sugar and cracked eggs in the mixer. When it finished mixing, I wrapped it and put it in the refrigerator.

After dinner we began making the cookies. First I unwrapped individually wrapped candies and put them into baggies while Steven supervised the crushing of them with a hammer on the kitchen floor.

Steven rolled out and cut the dough because he is really good a pie crust dough and this dough seemed similar.
I helped the boys fill in the centers with the colored candy pieces. They sparkled like gems.
I transported the filled cookies to the oven and picked up newly cut out cookies on the way back.
Soon the air was filled with a buttery sweet smell, with a slight hint of fruitiness.
These cookies have to be monitored carefully as the candies can burn easily.

It seemed so perfect to have these cookies during our year of the stained glass (because of our medieval history studies.)
A very merry evening.
