Homemade Playdough

I got this recipe from Almost Unschoolers. I actually made the entire amount without color and divided it and colored it afterwards by adding the food coloring at the point where it gets kneaded, and it worked fine. That way I didn't have to cook each portion separately.

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tablespoons cream of tarter
2 cups of water
food coloring (paste or gel food coloring makes the most vivid colors, but liquid does a fine job as well)

Mix all the ingredients together, until smooth. Divide into portions, according the the number of colors desired. Add several drops of food coloring to each portion, and cook each separately, in a small pan, over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens, and becomes rubbery. Remove from heat, and knead until smooth. Store in an air tight container, or Ziploc bag.

  1. Homemade playdoough is always fun!The tomato and corn sald looks like a great side. I actually made coleslaw in the fridge tonight using your version but allergy friendly and I snuck a taste it's sweet. I hope it tastes good with my substitute. Thanks for the neat recipes.
