1 lb. Ziti, or tube pasta
1 lb. ground beef or 8 oz. mushrooms, cut into large chunks
32 oz. your favorite red sauce
1/2 cup half and half
3 cups Mozarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup grated Parmasean
1 tea. garlic, minced
2 tea. minced onion
1/2 tea. Italian seasoning
Prepare pasta as directed on the box. Meanwhile brown ground beef. Pour drained pasta into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour red sauce into the empty pasta pot. Add ground beef, half & half, garlic, onions and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 5 minutes and then pour over pasta. Sprinkle cheeses over top. Bake 40 minutes or until brown and bubbly.
Note: We make it half with meat and half with mushrooms. Using two 9 inch square pans instead of the one 9 x 13 pan, I divide the noodles between the two pans and then put the ground beef on top of the noodles in one of the pans instead of in the sauce. Instead I put the mushrooms into the sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes. I then use a slotted spoon to get the mushroom chunks out and put them in the vegetarian pan. I then divide the sauces into the two pans, and follow the recipe from here out, dividing the cheeses evenly in the two pans.
